EXTENSION AND HAIR CARE.

How do I take care of my hair under a weave or when I braid? Every one starting a healthy hair journey is always anxious to know.

For me, extensions was what really damaged my nape and edges. Extensions are protective hair styles but if you do not care for your hair under an extention, it becomes a barrier to healthy hair.

Before my hair journey, I was always on braids and I've suffered severe breakage. Infact, that was what pushed me into taking care of my hair And when I started my hair journey, I began to understand the cons and pros of wearing extentions.

Cons Of Using Extention.
1. Tight braids expecially around your hair line can pull off your hair.

2. Heavy extensions- I am so guilty of this. Hair loss is caused due to weight and tension of braids. A condition known as traction alopecia.

3. Neglecting your hair whilst wearing extention- Seriously, this is a major issue. When I started my hair journey, my friend saw me washing my braids and she screamed "don't do that! Your hair is going to tangle. And that is the idea we are living with.
Note: Washing your braids do not tangle your hair but neglecting your hair does.

Pros Of Using Extention.
1. It is a protective style and can be worn for weeks thereby avoiding combs and frequent use of hands on our hair to detangle or style.

2. It prevents exposure to sun or harmattan which dries up the hair.

HOW I CARE FOR MY BRAIDS

Wash days (Every two weeks)
1. I oil my scalp with olive oil.

2. I wash with a sulphate free shampoo, paying more attention to my scalp.

3. Rinse out the shampoo and condition when damp. Allow the conditioner to sit in for 30 minutes.

4. Rinse out and dry with a towel.

5. I blow dry, focusing more on the braids rather than my scalp. When it's almost dry, I apply my leave in conditioner, preferably a spray leave in conditioner. I apply more to my braids and less to my scalp to avoid build ups.

6. I seal with olive oil (i.e applying oil to my braids after applying leave in).

Daily basis
1. I spray my hair by mixing olive oil and water in my spray bottle.

2. I moisturise, focusing on where my hair ends.

I am still growing my nape and edges. So if your nape is damaged, we can start this journey together.

Xoxo.

With love, Martyna.

BENEFITS OF PRE-POOING

What is pre poo? Pre poo is a short word for pre shampoo treatment. It is also similar to hot oil treatment but in this case, oils are applied before shampooing. It feeds the hair with some natural ingredients before washing the hair.

Oils are not the only essential substance to use for prepoo treatment. Conditioners (protein or deep conditioners) can be added depending on what your hair needs. Food items like honey, avocados can also be added.

I have a dry scalp. So what I do basically is to massage my hair with any oil of my choice, I use extra virgin olive oil, castor oil and dissolved shea butter. Other awesome options for use are: jojoba oil, sweet almond oil, grape seed oil, coconut oil.

In addition to that, I always use honey for a prepooing treatment. Honey acts as humectant and thereby allowing moisture into your hair.

How I pre poo my hair
1. I mix my oils (olive oil and shea butter), honey and conditioners.

2. I detangle my hair using my fingers first before using my comb.

3. I separate my hair into four sections and apply the mixture from tips to root, ensuring even distribution.

4. I cover my hair with a conditioning cap and stay for 30 minutes.

5. I washed my hair, then wrap with a towel and when damp I apply my conditioner.

6. I rinse out the conditioner and wrap with a towel again to prevent the water from dripping.

7. I air dry my Hair. When it's almost dry, I moisturise using my organics tea tree leave in conditioner and seal with an olive oil.

Benefits of Pre Poo
1. It removes the tangles easier and thereby reducing breakage.

2. Pre poo helps to restore lost moisture.

3. Prepoo make the hair more manageable and softer.

How often do I pre poo
I prepoo weekly but it depends on what your hair needs. You can prepoo biweekly, monthly. But it is usually done before you shampoo your hair. So you should pre poo as often as you shampoo your hair.

KONGA DELIVERS: HAIR STEAMER CAP AND HAIR STRAIGHTENER

I have always wanted to buy a hair steamer due to fact that I prefer handling my hair myself and besides that, who would love to go to the salon everyday just to steam?

I've been searching and searching and finally I got an answer... KONGA (smiles)
I ordered the hair steamer on 31st of May and it was delivered today, 10th June.

Price: N3999 plus delivery

I've not tried it on, so I can't make any review yet but I read online that the steamer isn't too hot  and that doesn't bother me considering the fact that it's a steaming Cap and the heat will not reach an uncomfortable level.

I also ordered a straightner

Price: N4500 plus delivery

I already have a straightner but it's a mini size

I wanted something bigger so I ordered.

So, if you've been on a search like me, quickly place order.

Hope this was informative. Do let us know if you benefited.

PRODUCT REVIEW: Organic Root Stimulator Olive oil Replenishing Conditioner

I've definitely become more of a fan of organics product. Aside the fact that I find more organics product in Port Harcourt, it's really helpful to my hair.

Ingredients:
Aqua (water), glycerine sofa (soybean) oil, glycerine, olea Europaea (olive) fruit oil, Hydrolyzed collagen, Quaternium-80, Citrus Aurantium Ducis (Orange) Oil, Citral, d-Limonene, Linalool, Polyquatenium-37, Propylene Glycol Dicaprylate/Dicaprate, PRG-1 Trideceth-6, Panthenol, Silk Amino Acids, PEG-9 Dimethicone, Anthemis Nobilis (Chamomile) extract, Saliva Officinalis (sage) Extract, Urtica Dioica (Nettle) Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rose Mary) Extract, Aloe Barbadensis, Leaf Juice, Achillea Millefolium (Yarrow) Extract, Actinidia Chinensis (Kiwi) Fruit Juice, Dimethicone, Hydrolyzed Glycosaminoglycans, EDTA, Triethanolamine, DMDH Hydantoin, methylchloroisothiazolinone, methylisothiazolinone, Cl 15985 (Yellow #6), Cl 19140 (Yellow#5)

Direction:
After shampooing, apply a generous amount to hair and comb through for thorough distribution. Place a plastic cap over the hair and seat under a warm drier for 10-15 minutes or leave on the hair for 45 minutes to 1 hour without heat. Rinse thoroughly.

This conditioner claims to help restore moisture and rebuild damaged hair.

I really like this conditioner and based on the fact that it is a protein conditioner, I use it every 3 to 4 weeks or after texlaxing my hair.
It reduces breakage but works more when used under a steamer.
Without sitting under a steamer I don't really notice any benefit.
It is really affordable and I bought 1 for N1000

From the picture above you'll notice the replenishing conditioner has a new pack, which is the one on your right.
If you are in Port harcourt, you can get this conditioner at Prince Mega, Mile 1.

Have you used any organics product?

PRODUCT REVIEW: AtOne with nature conditioner

Hi sweeties, I have been really busy. Hence, I've not been frequent with my update. I promise to update frequently.

Ingredients:
Aqua, Cyclomethicone, (and) Dimethicone, Cetearyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Stearalkonium Chloride, Dicetyldimonium Chloride, Tocopheryl Acetate, Octyl Dimethyl Para, Polysorbate 20, Mineral oil, Emulsifying Wax, Peg-40 Castor oil, Sodium PCA, Panthenol, Magnesium Citrate, Polyquatemium-7, Extracts of: (Chamomile, White Nettle, Pine Cane, Lappa, Rosemary, Ivy, Arnica, Watercross, Garlic, Calendula, Linden, Cornflower, Matricaria, Hypericum, Parfum, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Imidazolidinly Urea, Simethicone.

Direction:
Apply to clean dry hair after shampooing, leave for 3-5 minutes, rinse thoroughly. For a more intensive treatment, leave on for 10-20 minutes depending upon hair condition and texture.

The conditional claims to restore moisture balance, revives dry hair, assists with the reconstruction of damaged or weakened areas inside and along the outer hair shaft.
And the natural emollients and botanical extracts leave the hair with elasticity, body and shine.

I used this conditioner for almost 2 months
after I shampoo or after I cowash my hair. For extra conditioning, I cover my hair with a plastic cap for 30 minutes before rinsing.

The smell isn't dat bad. And I got
the 235ml (8 Fl. Oz.) for N400 in Akure. It works in giving my hair extra moisture and controls breakage and shedding. I really liked this conditioner. But I can't find it here in Port harcourt (so sad).

Have you used this conditioner?
Did it work for you?
We would really love to hear from you.
